Dear San Diego City Council IG Live, Presented by Counter Surveillance Students

In recent years, the City of San Diego installed thousands of surveillance cameras on streets throughout the city.

In recent months, 15 high school-age City Heights youth have experienced the first COUNTER SURVEILLANCE program at the AjA Project. COUNTER SURVEILLANCE takes a closer look at ourselves and our actions under the constant gaze of surveillance capitalism: cameras watching, microphones listening, and apps tracking our every move, phone swipe, and mouse click.

Today, city officials are planning to grant law enforcement agencies unfettered access to this video footage. This FREE live stream, "Dear San Diego City Council" is the students' collective response.

This final project follows a curriculum designed by community-taught artist Kenya (Robinson). This program was made possible by a grant from the California Arts Council, and the live stream is produced in partnership with Pillars of the Community.
